Bitcoin Trading Today: BTC Slips Below $77K as Two Major Tests Loom

Bitcoin Trading Today is being shaped by an unusual collision of monetary policy and cryptocurrency regulation, leaving BTC under renewed pressure after Monday’s rebound. Bitcoin slipped below $77,000 on September 15, reversing part of its previous session’s advance as traders prepared for a crucial US Senate vote on crypto legislation and Wednesday’s Federal Reserve interest-rate decision.

The pullback comes only a day after Bitcoin climbed as high as approximately $79,527, briefly putting the $80,000 threshold back within reach. By Tuesday, however, caution had returned. BTC was down around 2.9% at $76,834 in a later Reuters snapshot, while crypto-related equities also came under pressure.

The contrast between the two sessions captures Bitcoin’s current dilemma: buyers continue to appear on declines, but increasingly restrictive financial conditions are making it difficult for rallies to develop into sustained breakouts.

Bitcoin Trading Today Turns Cautious After Monday’s Rally

Monday initially offered Bitcoin bulls reasons for optimism.

BTC advanced roughly 1.7% on September 14, rising from around $76,815 and reaching an intraday high near $79,527. The move temporarily separated Bitcoin from weakness in technology stocks and showed that crypto buyers were still willing to step in despite deteriorating conditions across other risk assets.

But the rally stopped before $80,000.

That failure has become increasingly important because Bitcoin has repeatedly struggled to establish itself convincingly above that psychological threshold.

Tuesday’s retreat suggests traders are unwilling to chase another breakout before two events capable of materially changing the market narrative: the US Senate’s Clarity Act vote and the Federal Reserve decision.

Bitcoin Trading Today: Washington Could Reshape the Crypto Narrative

The first major catalyst comes directly from Washington.

The US Senate is scheduled to hold a procedural vote on the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, legislation intended to establish a clearer regulatory framework for digital assets in the United States.

The bill needs 60 votes to advance, but political disagreements surrounding ethics provisions and cryptocurrency interests have created uncertainty over whether sufficient support exists.

For Bitcoin, the significance extends beyond one legislative vote.

Regulatory uncertainty has long complicated the relationship between the cryptocurrency industry and traditional finance. A clearer framework could provide companies and institutional investors with greater certainty about how digital assets are issued, traded and supervised.

Progress could therefore improve sentiment across the sector.

Failure to advance the legislation, however, could disappoint traders who have increasingly viewed regulatory clarity as one of the potential structural catalysts for US crypto adoption.

That uncertainty helps explain why Bitcoin and crypto-related stocks weakened ahead of the vote.

Fed Decision Creates a Second Test for Bitcoin

Less than a day after Washington’s crypto debate, traders face another major event.

The Federal Reserve is widely expected to raise interest rates by 25 basis points on Wednesday, with market pricing showing an overwhelming probability of an increase. It would be the central bank’s first rate hike in roughly three years.

For Bitcoin, the hike itself may not be the biggest surprise.

Because markets have already assigned a high probability to the move, attention is likely to shift quickly toward Fed Chair Kevin Warsh’s guidance and the expected path for interest rates after September.

A message suggesting several additional hikes remain necessary could tighten financial conditions further and weigh on speculative assets.

A more measured outlook could have the opposite effect, particularly if traders conclude that much of the expected tightening is already reflected in asset prices.

Bitcoin Trading Today Faces a 5% Treasury Yield Problem

The backdrop for risk assets has become considerably more challenging.

The benchmark US 10-year Treasury yield briefly reached 5.04% on Tuesday, its highest level since 2007. At the same time, crude oil remained above $100 as Middle East supply disruptions intensified inflation concerns.

For Bitcoin, rising government bond yields create competition for capital.

When investors can earn around 5% from US government debt, the hurdle for holding a highly volatile, non-yielding asset becomes higher.

This does not eliminate Bitcoin’s longer-term investment case, but it can reduce demand for risk during periods when monetary policy is tightening.

The relationship also helps explain why BTC’s recent rebounds have struggled to maintain momentum even when cryptocurrency-specific developments have been constructive.

Oil Has Become an Unexpected Crypto Catalyst

Another pressure point is emerging from the energy market.

Brent crude has traded around $108 per barrel, while WTI remains above $100 as disruptions involving Middle Eastern infrastructure and shipping routes keep supply concerns elevated.

At first glance, an oil rally and Bitcoin may appear largely unrelated.

The connection becomes clearer through inflation.

Persistently expensive energy can raise transportation, manufacturing and consumer costs. If that keeps US inflation elevated, the Federal Reserve may have greater reason to maintain restrictive monetary policy.

For Bitcoin traders, Middle East developments therefore matter because they can indirectly influence inflation expectations, Treasury yields, the dollar and ultimately demand for risk assets.

$80,000 Remains the Barrier Bitcoin Cannot Ignore

Recent trading has established a relatively clear short-term battleground.

Bitcoin’s Monday high around $79,500 again demonstrated the importance of the $80,000 region. Buyers have approached that threshold several times, but establishing a convincing move above it has proved difficult.

A sustained break beyond $79,500–$80,000 would strengthen the case that buyers are regaining momentum and could bring higher resistance areas back into focus.

The downside deserves equal attention.

Bitcoin’s move below $77,000 on Tuesday puts the $76,000–$77,000 area back under scrutiny. Failure to stabilize around this region could expose BTC to a deeper correction if the Fed delivers a more hawkish message than markets expect.

The result leaves Bitcoin squeezed between a recognizable support area and a resistance level that has repeatedly stopped recent rallies.

Two Decisions Could Set Bitcoin’s Next Direction

What makes Bitcoin Trading Today particularly important is that the cryptocurrency is not waiting for one catalyst, it is facing two very different ones almost simultaneously.

The Clarity Act could influence how investors view the future regulatory environment for digital assets in the United States.

The Federal Reserve could determine whether the broader financial environment becomes more or less favorable for risk-taking.

A positive regulatory development combined with a relatively measured Fed message could give Bitcoin another opportunity to challenge $80,000.

The opposite combination, a legislative setback and a hawkish Fed, could place renewed pressure on the $76,000–$77,000 region.

There are also mixed scenarios in between, which could produce sharp two-way volatility rather than a clean directional move.

For traders, that makes the next 24 to 48 hours less about predicting one headline and more about understanding how regulation, interest rates, bond yields and market risk appetite interact.

Bitcoin has already shown that buyers remain interested below $80,000. What it has not yet shown is whether that demand is strong enough to overcome the increasingly demanding macroeconomic environment.

With BTC below $77,000 and two major US decisions approaching, the market may not have to wait long for an answer.
